About Karen Armstrong
Painter, Digital Artist, and Surface Designer in Washington State
Hello, I’m Karen Armstrong, artist and designer behind Karen Armstrong Studio.
For over four decades, I’ve been creating art inspired by the changing seasons and the quiet beauty they hold. I am a painter, digital artist, and surface designer based in Colville, Washington. I design art prints, note cards, fabric, wallpaper, and home decor rooted in beauty, nature, and the gentle rhythm of the seasons.
I grew up in California’s San Joaquin Valley, surrounded by farmland, orchards, and the ever-changing light of the open sky. That early connection to the land has stayed with me and continues to shape my work in grounded, poetic expressions inspired by the natural world.
In this current chapter of life, the idea of home has become an especially meaningful part of my creative practice. My husband and I recently relocated to northeastern Washington, settling into an old house and learning its rhythms and history as we go. Renovating and restoring this home has been less about transformation and more about listening and honoring what was already here, moving slowly and making thoughtful, intentional choices rather than quick fixes. The process has become a quiet teacher, mirroring much of what I value in both art and life.
As empty nesters, with our son grown and married, this season has brought spaciousness. Time to reflect. Time to create. Time to notice the unfolding details of a new landscape in the Pacific Northwest. The changing light, unfamiliar terrain, and steady work of shaping a home are gently finding their way into my art.
My professional creative journey began as co-owner of Creative Collection, a wholesale greeting card company whose licensed designs appeared on giftware, rubber stamps, dishware, gift bags, notecards, and paper goods worldwide. Though the formats have evolved over the years, my heart has remained the same. I create art to nurture, reflect, and quietly uplift.
Through The Artful Season, my seasonal newsletter and Substack publication, I share reflections on art, home, seasonal living, and creative process. It is a quiet gathering place for those who long to slow down, notice beauty in small things, and find comfort in the rhythms of everyday life.
Whether through a painted work, a surface pattern design, a handwritten card, or a glimpse into restoring and living in an old house with intention, my hope is simple:
That my art becomes a small part of your story.
I warmly invite you to explore my seasonal collections or join The Artful Season newsletter for ongoing reflections and studio glimpses.
